The short answer is that you need to do this well in advance of the schools closing in July and preferably before the exam season in June gets underway.
We are often approached by supply teachers in July which is fine but it takes longer to get the reference requests from past jobs at schools returned, inevitably because many of the contacts in those schools are on holiday or the school is simply closed for a few weeks.
The same is true for primary schools where the end of the summer term it is very busy and the staff are frenetic with limited time to return reference requests.
Normally a supply agency has a steady flow of candidates registering for work throughout the year, however, in the June July period there is a delay as schools break for the summer.
For teachers wanting to take posts in September for the new academic year it makes good sense to get the registration process and safeguarding clearance out of the way in good time for a clean start in September.
In particular by approach the education recruitment company early you enable the recruitment consultants to understand your requirements and to put your details forward to the schools that are looking for your particular subject expertise. Many schools use recruitment agencies in June to start to fill teaching posts for September.
