  • Do you have experience of teaching Maths and Physics in Secondary or Primary settings?
  • Do you want to take part in 36 hours free CPD over 9 months to help improve your teaching of Maths and Physics?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions then you may well be interested in TSST:

TSST is Teacher Subject Specialism Training and is a new in initiative funded by the Dept. of Education. The course is free to all participants, with sessions being run by 100 schools nationally, covering approx. 3000 participants. This is the second year of TSST and funding has been agreed for 5 years in total.

Wymondham College ran the course last year for teachers who are non- maths specialists but are teaching maths in secondary schools and this year we have extended it to cover Primary maths teachers and non-specialist Physics teachers.

The course runs for 9 months and is designed to explore the conceptual, pictorial and abstract approaches to all the main topics as well as providing teachers with a supportive environment to teach pupils accordingly for the new maths curriculum. We run our course on 8 Saturday mornings and one residential weekender held in the boarding facilities we have at the College. We are operating in partnership with Farlingaye High School who run the course in Suffolk through a series of twilight sessions.

The course was designed in partnership with Educator Solutions and all the trainers are excellent maths teachers from across the county. Feedback we have so far has been overwhelmingly excellent. This is also a unique opportunity to network and build relationships with the maths community of Norfolk.

In 2015-16 we recruited 35 participants across Norfolk/Suffolk and this year we have hit 95 participants. Our secondary cohort last year and this year is 50% HLTA and the rest a combination of PE, Science, SLT, Cover Teachers and teachers thinking of returning to the profession. Our Crossover Primary is mainly Yr. 5 to 6 teachers, maths leads or younger year teachers with a passion for maths.

Our physics TSST is mainly Chemistry and Biology teachers.

If you are interested in teaching Maths or Physics then you could be eligible to receive up to £30,000 as a tax-free bursary or be awarded a prestigious scholarship which would provide you with additional support and benefits throughout your training year.

Alternatively, you could earn a salary while you train through school based teacher training, such as School Direct or Teach First.
