4myschools is recruiting for a mainstream Church of England Primary school located in Halstead, Colchester. The school are seeking a one-to-one SEND Learning Support Assistant to support a child joining a reception class with profound autistic spectrum disorder (ASD.) You will be providing the child with one-to-one support across their school day.
The child will be applying to go to a specialist setting but is currently in assessment for EHCP funding for whilst the child is at the mainstream school.
The child is prelingual (early hearing loss) so non-verbal and the way of communication is object exchange. This type of hearing loss may occur for a variety of reasons and impacts cognitive, social, and language development.
PECS experience is vital in this role as you will be using picture exchange to work towards communicating with the child. The child has no behavioural needs but there is learning delay, social delay and language delay.
This is a full time, term time role. You will be working 0830-1530 Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities:
Work one to one with a child with profound ASD needs.
Once in place, follow the child’s ECHP.
A good understanding of PECS is vital to this role.
Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and school leadership about student progress and concerns.
Requirements:
A Level 3 in early years would be an advantage as this may help with the transition but that is not essential.
It would be beneficial if you have some knowledge of the preschool curriculum.
Confident using PECS.
Passion for education and a genuine interest in contributing to students’ development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Adaptability and the ability to thrive in diverse learning environments.
Enhanced DBS check (we can assist in the process if needed).
