SEN Primary Teacher Jobs Colchester. We are working with a welcoming, forward‑thinking primary school in Colchester which includes a purpose‑built Specialist Enhanced Unit (SEU) for children with ASD, ADHD, speech‑language needs, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties. A significant number of pupils have hearing impairments; therefore, British Sign Language is fully embedded throughout the school. Consequently, all LSAs and most teachers hold at least BSL Level 2, and moreover, every class signs during daily lessons and singing.

Job Responsibilities for SEN Primary Teacher Jobs Colchester:

• Teach a small, well‑supported class or ability group (6–10 pupils) within the SEU.
• Plan and deliver creative, highly differentiated lessons that meet EHCP targets and celebrate each pupil’s unique strengths.
• Embed signing and visual communication strategies throughout the school day.
• Lead and mentor LSAs (all BSL Level 2) to run targeted interventions.
• Work closely with our experienced SENCo, HI advisory team, SALT and external professionals.
• Foster a nurturing, inclusive classroom where pupils feel safe to take risks and develop independence.

Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with recent primary experience.
• Proven success teaching pupils with SEND (specialist or mainstream setting).
• Commitment to, or willingness to train in, British Sign Language (minimum Level 2 within 18 months—funded by the school).
  Sound knowledge of adaptive teaching, sensory approaches and assessment for learning.
  Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a child‑centred ethos.
