General Cover Teacher (Daily Supply) Location: Essex Job Type: Daily Supply / Short & Long Term Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience) Start Date: Immediate and Ongoing Opportunities Available About the Role We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and adaptable General Cover Teachers to provide daily supply cover across secondary schools in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) looking for flexible work within education. As a General Cover Teacher, you will be responsible for supervising and delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, ensuring students remain engaged and on task in the absence of their regular teacher. You will play a key role in maintaining a positive learning environment while upholding the school’s behaviour and safeguarding expectations. Key Responsibilities Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a variety of subject areas at Key Stages 3 and 4. Manage classroom behaviour effectively and maintain a positive learning environment. Ensure students remain focused and engaged throughout lessons. Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and behaviour management. Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson outcomes and student engagement. Adapt quickly to different schools, departments, and classroom settings. Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere for all students. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, and have experience working within a secondary school setting. They will demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour management skills, alongside excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities. A flexible, adaptable, and professional approach is essential, as is the ability to confidently deliver lessons across a range of subject areas. Candidates must hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate preferably registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one prior to employment. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic  and confident working with pupils in a Secondary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

What you’ll need to apply
