Cover Supervisor (Daily Supply) Location: Essex Job Type: Daily Supply / Short & Long Term Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience) Start Date: Immediate and Ongoing Opportunities Available About the Role We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and adaptable Cover Supervisors to provide daily supply cover across secondary schools in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable experience within education, including graduates, aspiring teachers, experienced Cover Supervisors, and those with relevant youth work or school-based experience. As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during the short-term absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain on task and engaged with the work that has been set. You will play an important role in maintaining a positive learning environment while upholding the school’s behaviour and safeguarding expectations. Key Responsibilities Supervise whole classes during the absence of teaching staff across a variety of subject areas at Key Stages 3 and 4. Deliver instructions and oversee the completion of pre-set work provided by teaching staff. Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies. Ensure students remain focused, engaged, and on task throughout lessons. Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, attendance, and behaviour management. Record attendance and report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate staff members. Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student progress, behaviour, and lesson outcomes. Adapt confidently to different schools, departments, and classroom settings as required. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people, preferably within a secondary school or educational setting. They will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, alongside strong classroom and behaviour management abilities. A confident, professional, and adaptable approach is essential, as is the ability to engage and motivate students from a range of backgrounds and abilities. Candidates should hold: A minimum of GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. Experience working with children or young people in an educational, coaching, mentoring, youth work, or similar setting. Strong behaviour management and communication skills. The ability to remain calm, professional, and confident in a classroom environment.
