You will be working across a mix of primary schools in the Chelmsford area, ranging from one‑form entry to four‑form entry settings. Each school offers its own structure, routines, and teaching approaches, giving you valuable insight into different ways of working. Staff teams are typically supportive and experienced in welcoming supply teachers into their classrooms. This variety allows you to gain exposure to different schemes of work, behaviour policies, and school cultures. As an ECT Supply Teacher, you will take responsibility for leading the class during teacher absence, following the plans provided by the school and maintaining a positive learning environment. You may work across different year groups, allowing you to fine‑tune your preferences and strengths. This role also provides opportunities to network with local schools, supporting future applications for longer‑term or permanent positions.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and capable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

This role would suit an ECT who is adaptable, confident in managing a classroom, and keen to gain broad experience across primary settings. You will be comfortable stepping into new environments and quickly building rapport with pupils. A reflective approach to teaching and a willingness to learn from different schools and colleagues will help you get the most from this opportunity. Strong communication skills and a positive, professional attitude are essential.
