Immediate opportunity! EYFS 1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Thorpe le soken

4myschools are seeking a compassionate, resilient and experienced EYFS Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school within a well-established academy trust in the Clacton area from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting a child in the Early Years Foundation Stage on a dedicated 1:1 basis. The school is a nurturing, community-focused setting that places children’s wellbeing, personal development and individual progress at the heart of everything it does. Staff work collaboratively to create a supportive learning environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will provide consistent 1:1 support for a child with complex additional needs, helping them access learning activities safely and successfully throughout the school day. The pupil presents with communication and interaction difficulties alongside behaviours that may occur when dysregulated, including sensory-seeking and self-injurious behaviours such as head banging. You will be responsible for implementing individual support strategies, promoting emotional regulation, supporting engagement within classroom and play-based activities, recording observations and working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and external professionals where required. The role will require patience, consistency and the ability to build a trusting relationship whilst maintaining a calm and supportive approach during periods of distress. You will play a crucial role in helping the child develop communication skills, independence, social interaction and confidence within the school environment.

  • Contract duration: Temporary (Long Term)
  • Contract type: FULL_TIME – Hours: 08:30 – 3:30
  • Age groups: Nursery, Reception, EYFS

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

We are looking for a candidate who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

We are keen to hear from experienced Learning Support Assistants, Early Years Practitioners, Nursery Nurses, SEND Teaching Assistants or Childcare Professionals who have previous experience working with children with additional needs. Experience supporting children with autism, sensory processing difficulties, communication needs, SEMH needs or challenging behaviours would be highly advantageous. Candidates should possess a good understanding of child development within EYFS and be confident implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour. A recognised Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Early Years, Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related field would be desirable, although applicants with significant relevant experience are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold a minimum Grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English and Maths and be available to commit to the role on a full-time basis, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm during term time only. Reliability and consistency are essential due to the individual support needs of the pupil. Due to the location of the school and limited public transport routes in the surrounding area, access to a car and the ability to travel independently is considered essential. This long-term position offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child’s educational journey whilst becoming part of a supportive and dedicated school team. The booking is expected to commence in September and continue on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year.
