New opportunity! Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Loughton
4myschools are delighted to be recruiting a part-time Higher Level Teaching Assistant for a September start at a welcoming and highly supportive rural secondary setting in Essex. This specialist provision supports young people aged 11–16 with additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, and provides a calm, structured and therapeutic learning environment. Set within a countryside location with strong links to outdoor and practical learning, the school prioritises nurture, consistency and positive relationships. Small class sizes enable staff to deliver highly personalised support and make a meaningful difference to pupils’ lives. Due to the rural location, access to your own transport is essential. In this rewarding HLTA role, starting in September, you will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to support learning across the curriculum. Duties will include delivering planned learning activities, leading small group and one-to-one interventions, supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour strategies, and contributing to individual education plans and reviews. You will also be confident covering lessons during short-term teacher absence, supporting outdoor and vocational-style learning activities, and consistently modelling positive behaviour, communication and boundaries. This role suits someone who enjoys variety, values relationship-based practice and thrives in a specialist educational setting.
- Contract duration: Permanent
- Contract type: FULL_TIME – Hours: 8:30 to 3:30
- Age groups: Primary School
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate should be committed and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.
This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant or substantial experience as a Teaching Assistant with the confidence to lead learning independently. Experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs—particularly SEMH—or strong subject knowledge at secondary curriculum level will be highly desirable. You will hold HLTA status or equivalent experience, demonstrate resilience, patience and a calm approach, and be available for a part-time position from September (working days and hours to be agreed). A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to the school’s rural location. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional seeking a fulfilling, part-time role within a close-knit and supportive team from the start of the new academic year.
