4myschools is recruiting for an experienced and resilient SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist post-16 provision supporting sixth form-aged students with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. The setting supports young people as they prepare for adulthood, focusing on developing independence, communication, emotional regulation, employability skills and life skills. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, staff collaborate closely with teaching, therapeutic and pastoral colleagues to provide consistent support tailored to individual needs. The provision offers a personalised and inclusive curriculum designed to help learners overcome barriers to education and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will build positive and trusting relationships with students who may present with social, emotional and mental health needs alongside additional learning difficulties. You will support learners both in and out of the classroom, helping them engage in lessons, manage emotions, develop social skills and maintain positive behaviour. A significant part of the role will involve implementing behaviour support strategies, de-escalating challenging situations, promoting wellbeing and encouraging students to make positive choices throughout the school day. You will work closely with teaching staff to adapt learning activities, monitor progress and contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing environment where every learner feels valued and understood.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and capable working with pupils in a SEN School setting.

The successful applicant will be someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working with young people who have SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, autism, ADHD, communication difficulties or complex learning needs. Experience as a Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Residential Support Worker or similar role would be highly advantageous. You will be calm, patient, confident and able to demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills alongside a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people. Candidates must hold a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Mathematics and be available to work the following hours: Monday: 8:30am to 4:00pm Tuesday: 8:30am to 5:00pm Wednesday: 8:30am to 4:00pm Thursday: 8:30am to 4:00pm Friday: 8:30am to 3:45pm Due to the location of the setting, access to your own transport is highly desirable.
