Current opening! SEND Hub Learning Support Assistant – Basildon

We are recruiting for a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist SEND provision in Basildon, Essex, from 2nd November through to the end of the academic year to cover maternity leave. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils with additional needs within a highly structured and nurturing learning environment. Working Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:15pm, you will play an important role in helping children access learning, communication and sensory-based activities.

This opportunity is based within a specialist SEND setting that provides a calm, supportive and structured learning environment for pupils with complex needs. Class sizes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of ten children, allowing staff to provide individualised support throughout the school day.

The provision benefits from a recently refurbished outdoor learning area which has been designed to be accessible throughout the year in all weather conditions. Pupils follow consistent daily routines that include both planned sensory activities and opportunities for independent exploration and free-time.

The class is well staffed, with three LSAs assigned to the room, including a lead LSA who oversees planning and daily organisation. Additional support is provided by the SENDCO and a specialist SEN Teacher twice per week.

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils whose primary needs include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and communication difficulties, including non-verbal learners. You will work closely with the classroom team to deliver structured activities, support sensory regulation and encourage engagement throughout the school day.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting pupils during learning, sensory and play-based activities.
  • Assisting with communication strategies for non-verbal children.
  • Following structured routines and behaviour support plans.
  • Working collaboratively with the lead LSA, SENDCO and visiting SEN Teacher.
  • Supporting one pupil with PICA requirements in line with school procedures.

  • Contract duration: Fixed Term
  • Contract type: FULL_TIME – Hours: 08:30 – 15:15
  • Age groups: Primary School

About the ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and comfortable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

We are looking for a candidate who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The successful candidate will be patient, adaptable and passionate about supporting children with special educational needs. Previous experience within a SEND setting, particularly supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), would be highly beneficial. You should be confident working as part of a team and able to follow established routines and support strategies. Strong communication skills, a calm approach and a genuine commitment to helping pupils achieve their individual goals will be important for success in this role.
