Current opening! SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary – North Walsham
4myschools are seeking dedicated, experienced and compassionate SEN HLTAs to join our supply team and support a range of welcoming and inclusive schools across the North Walsham area from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for education professionals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and who enjoy the variety and flexibility that daily supply work offers. As an SEN HLTA, you will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Working across a number of primary and specialist educational settings, you will support children with a broad range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be responsible for delivering planned interventions, supporting differentiated learning activities, leading small-group and one-to-one sessions, and reinforcing learning objectives set by teachers. In some settings, you may be required to lead whole-class learning during short-term teacher absences, ensuring continuity of education and maintaining a positive learning environment. The schools we work with pride themselves on creating nurturing, child-centred learning environments where every pupil is valued and encouraged to develop confidence, independence and resilience. Successful candidates will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider support staff to ensure pupils receive the tailored support they need both academically and emotionally. A strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management strategies, communication techniques and inclusive teaching practices will be essential. You will have the opportunity to build valuable relationships within local schools while gaining experience in a variety of SEND provisions and mainstream settings. This role offers the flexibility to choose assignments that suit your availability while maintaining regular work throughout the academic year. Working hours will typically be 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term-time only, with both full-time and part-time supply opportunities available.
- Contract duration: Supply Teacher, Temporary (Short Term)
- Contract type: PART_TIME, FULL_TIME – Hours: 08:30-3.:30
- Age groups: Primary School
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate should be proactive and capable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.
This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.
We are looking for a proactive and confident education professional who has previous experience working as an HLTA, Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or within a similar educational support role. Experience supporting children with SEND is essential, and applicants should feel comfortable adapting learning activities to meet the individual needs of pupils. A recognised HLTA qualification would be advantageous; however, candidates with substantial SEN experience, excellent classroom practice and the ability to lead learning independently are equally encouraged to apply. The successful applicant must hold a minimum of Grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE Maths and English and demonstrate excellent communication, organisational and behaviour management skills. You will be patient, empathetic and resilient, with the ability to quickly build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents. Due to the nature of working across multiple schools within the North Walsham area, access to your own transport or the ability to travel reliably between settings is highly desirable. Applicants must be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and possess a genuine passion for helping young people thrive both academically and personally.
