New opportunity! 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (Reception class) – Colchester

Not every SEND role is the same. Some give you the chance to make a genuine difference to one child’s entire school journey. 4myschools is recruiting a caring, patient and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with an EHCP in a welcoming rural primary school in North-East Essex. This long-term opportunity can be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, making it suitable for candidates seeking flexibility while securing consistent work in a supportive setting. The successful candidate will support a young child who is non-verbal, highly active and requires tailored support throughout the school day. Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team, you will help the pupil engage with learning, develop communication skills, build positive relationships and access classroom activities safely and successfully. You will use a calm, encouraging approach, recognise individual cues and triggers, and adapt activities to meet the child’s specific needs. The role will involve supporting personal development, emotional regulation, sensory needs, play-based learning and promoting independence wherever possible. The school is a smaller-than-average primary setting serving pupils aged 4-11 and forms part of a successful multi-academy trust. Staff benefit from collaborative working, shared expertise and excellent professional development opportunities. The school is committed to inclusion, positive relationships and helping every child reach their potential within a nurturing learning environment. Recent inspection findings praised the quality of education, behaviour, leadership and personal development provision, creating a positive environment in which both pupils and staff can thrive.

  • Contract duration: Temporary (Long Term)
  • Contract type: FULL_TIME, PART_TIME – Hours: 08:30-3:30
  • Age groups: EYFS

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and capable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

This role would suit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Autism Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Early Years Practitioner, Nursery Practitioner, Care Worker, Support Worker, Youth Worker or Teaching Assistant. Experience supporting children with autism, communication needs, speech and language difficulties, sensory needs, EHCPs, developmental delays or additional learning needs would be highly beneficial. Equally, candidates with strong transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND are encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, be available during school hours, and be able to commit to a long-term position. Due to the rural location of the school and unreliable public transport links, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. If you’re looking for a rewarding role where you can build a meaningful connection with one child and help shape their early educational experience, we’d love to hear from you.
