Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking for the flexibility to work around your existing commitments whilst continuing to make a positive impact in primary education? 4myschools is working in partnership with a welcoming and highly regarded village primary school near Colchester that is seeking a confident HLTA to provide flexible, pre-booked cover on an ad hoc basis from September 2026. Set within a picturesque rural community, this friendly and inclusive primary school prides itself on creating a nurturing learning environment where pupils are encouraged to be curious, resilient and aspirational. The school benefits from a close-knit team atmosphere, strong relationships with families and a broad, engaging curriculum designed to help pupils thrive academically and personally. As a Flexible Supply HLTA, you will provide planned classroom cover across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, predominantly covering teachers’ PPA time, staff absence and additional release time. You will confidently deliver lessons prepared by class teachers, manage classroom behaviour effectively, support pupils’ learning outcomes and maintain a positive and engaging learning environment. The opportunity offers excellent variety and would suit someone who enjoys working across different year groups whilst maintaining flexibility in their working schedule. All bookings will be arranged in advance wherever possible, allowing you to organise your availability around other commitments.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be motivated  and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

We are seeking an experienced and qualified (Level 4 or above) HLTA, although experienced candidates with substantial classroom leadership experience will also be considered. Applicants must possess GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above and have experience leading whole-class learning activities within primary schools. Confidence working across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 is highly desirable, along with excellent communication, behaviour management and organisational skills. Due to the rural location of the school, access to reliable transport is essential. Applicants should be available between 8:30am and 3:30pm, term time only, on days mutually agreed in advance.
