Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be committed  and capable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant with a proven background supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, ideally within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. You will have a strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2014), the Equalities Act (2018), and the statutory processes surrounding Education, Health and Care Plans. Experience of successfully supporting pupils with SEND, including delivering targeted literacy and numeracy interventions using recognised strategies, is essential. You will be confident in leading learning in the absence of the class teacher, delivering bespoke interventions, and supporting pupils to engage positively with learning in a calm, structured and therapeutic environment. You will bring experience of behaviour management strategies and SEMH‑specific approaches, including the use of consistent routines, co‑regulation and solution‑focused support. Experience of working with external agencies and professionals, alongside a clear understanding of safeguarding protocols and procedures, is vital. Completion of, or willingness to undertake, Norfolk STEPS Step On and Step Up training is required, and you will demonstrate a commitment to continually developing your practice through ongoing training and professional development. You will be resilient, reflective and emotionally self‑aware, able to manage your own responses and remain calm when supporting pupils in crisis. Above all, you will be compassionate, kind and empathetic, with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes, wellbeing and future life chances for children with SEMH needs. You will be able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, communicate effectively with colleagues and external partners, and work flexibly and creatively under pressure. A commitment to safeguarding, pupil welfare and inclusive practice is fundamental to this role. Access to reliable transport is advantageous due to partnership working with other schools across the local area in and around Norwich.
