Immediate opportunity! SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Primary – Thetford

4myschools is working closely with a number of supportive and forward‑thinking primary schools in Thetford, who are seeking experienced SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join them on a flexible supply basis from September. These schools are recognised for their inclusive ethos and strong commitment to meeting the needs of pupils with additional needs through well‑established Specialist Resource Bases (SRB) and SHIP units within mainstream primary settings. As an SEN HLTA on supply, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality support across the school day, stepping into HLTA‑level responsibilities to support pupils with a range of needs including ASD, communication and interaction needs, SEMH and complex learning difficulties. Your role may involve leading small group interventions, providing targeted 1:1 support, delivering planned learning activities in the absence of the class teacher, supporting personalised learning programmes within SRB and SHIP provisions, and working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and wider support staff to ensure pupils are safe, supported and able to access learning. This position offers excellent flexibility, allowing you to work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week, term time only, making it ideal for those seeking variety, work‑life balance and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across multiple school settings.

  • Contract duration: Ongoing
  • Contract type: TEMPORARY, PART_TIME, FULL_TIME – Hours: 8:30 – 3:30
  • Age groups: Primary School

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be motivated  and comfortable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

The successful applicant will be someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The ideal candidate will hold HLTA status or equivalent experience and have previous experience working in SEN or specialist provision, particularly within SRB or SHIP units in primary schools. Strong knowledge of special educational needs and confidence in delivering interventions, managing small groups and supporting individual learning plans is essential. You will be adaptable, calm and proactive, with the ability to step confidently into different school environments and uphold consistent routines and expectations. Applicants must be available for supply work from September, with the flexibility to work 1–5 days per week during term time only. Due to the location of schools in and around Thetford, access to your own transport is highly desirable. A sound understanding of safeguarding, excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs are key to success in this role. This opportunity is well suited to experienced SEN HLTAs seeking flexible work, professionals returning to education, or those looking to broaden their experience across a range of specialist primary settings.
