Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be committed  and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working within an educational setting, ideally across Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, and a strong understanding of how to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will have a secure working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2014), the Equalities Act (2018), and the statutory requirements surrounding Education, Health and Care Plans. Experience of successfully meeting the needs of pupils with SEND, including delivering and supporting basic literacy and numeracy through proven interventions and strategies, is essential. You will bring experience of behaviour management and the use of structured, therapeutic and solution‑focused approaches to support pupils with complex SEMH needs, including strategies that develop social skills and emotional regulation. Experience of working with external agencies and professionals is highly valued, as is completion of, or willingness to undertake, Norfolk STEPS Step On and Step Up training. A clear understanding of safeguarding protocols and a strong commitment to promoting the welfare and safety of children at all times is fundamental to this role. The successful candidate will be compassionate, calm and resilient, demonstrating empathy, care and kindness—particularly when pupils are in crisis—while fostering a strong sense of hope, belonging and understanding. You will be emotionally self‑aware, able to regulate your own responses, and confident in using consistent, supportive communication with pupils, colleagues and external partners. You will be reflective in your practice, committed to ongoing professional development, and able to work creatively and flexibly under pressure. Strong relationship‑building skills, effective communication, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes, wellbeing and life chances for children with SEMH needs are essential.
