Job start date: 01/06/2026 or ASAP thereafter | Pay: £92-£97 per day | School type: Primary School

Current opening! SEND Learning Support Assistant (Supply – Planned Cover) – Colchester

Are you an experienced SEND professional who values flexibility but understands the importance of consistency for children with additional needs? 4myschools is working closely with a nurturing, inclusive local primary school that has a well‑established Specialist Resource Base (SRB) supporting pupils with SEND. The school is seeking a reliable, skilled Learning Support Assistant to provide planned absence cover, with work offered with notice, allowing you to balance flexibility with familiarity. In this role, you will support pupils within the SRB and, where appropriate, across the wider school, helping them to access learning, regulate emotions and engage positively with their day. You will work alongside class teachers and the SENCo, following individual support plans and established routines so that even during absence cover, pupils experience stability, reassurance and continuity. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building ongoing professional relationships within one school community, rather than moving from setting to setting.

  • Contract duration: Flexible: daily and long-term supply opportunities
  • Contract type: Flexible – Hours: 08:30-3:30
  • Age groups: Primary School
  • Application Close: 31/07/2026

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate should be committed  and comfortable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

You are an experienced Learning Support Assistant or SEND professional with a strong background in supporting children with special educational needs, ideally within an SRB, specialist provision or inclusive mainstream primary setting. You have a calm, patient approach and understand how vital consistency is for pupils who can find change challenging. You are confident supporting needs such as ASD, communication and interaction needs, or social, emotional and mental health, and can follow established strategies to maintain a structured, supportive environment. You are seeking flexible supply work that is planned rather than last‑minute, enabling you to commit to regular cover when required. On the days that you are available, you can commit to working 8:30am-3:30pm, and have access to reliable transport to travel to a local school. This role will suit you if you want flexibility without losing the sense of belonging and professional continuity that comes from returning to the same setting.
