The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher to support learning through play, structured activities and routines, helping children to develop key early skills in a safe, engaging and supportive environment. The role will involve providing one‑to‑one and small‑group support, assisting with phonics, early literacy and numeracy, supporting personal care routines where required, and contributing to a positive, calm and inclusive classroom culture. Experience supporting pupils with SEND is highly advantageous, as the school is committed to meeting the needs of all learners and providing tailored support to help every child thrive.

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic  and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

This role would suit someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within an EYFS or Infant school setting, with a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and how young children learn through play, routines and positive relationships. A CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Early Years, Childcare or equivalent is highly desirable, although applicants with strong relevant experience and transferable skills will also be considered. You will be confident supporting early phonics, language development, early literacy and numeracy, as well as assisting with personal care routines where required. Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly in early years, is an advantage, and you will demonstrate patience, adaptability and a nurturing approach to meeting individual needs. Applicants with transferable skills from roles such as nursery practitioner, childminder, youth worker, family support worker, SEN support worker or care‑based roles are encouraged to apply, as the school values individuals who bring strong child‑centred practice, emotional awareness and excellent communication skills. You will be calm, reliable and flexible in your approach, able to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and routines, and confident working both independently and as part of a wider team. A clear understanding of safeguarding procedures and a strong commitment to promoting the welfare and wellbeing of young children is essential. The successful candidate will be available for daily supply and long‑term cover, with the flexibility to accept work at short notice and the reliability to commit to longer bookings when required. Due to the location of the school in Thetford, access to reliable transport is advantageous. Above all, you will be enthusiastic, caring and passionate about supporting children at the very start of their educational journey, helping them to feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
