Immediate opportunity! Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEN Setting (Autism Focus) – Colchester

4myschools are delighted to be recruiting an LSA for a specialist school in the Colchester area, dedicated to empowering pupils with autism and associated learning needs. With small class sizes, strong leadership and a genuine focus on staff wellbeing and development, this school offers a rewarding opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant looking to make a meaningful impact. In this role, you will work closely with teaching staff to provide both one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils access a broad and engaging curriculum tailored to their individual needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supporting classroom activities, assisting with the delivery of personalised learning plans and care strategies, and encouraging positive communication and social development. You will play an active role in preparing resources, supporting sensory and physical activities, supervising break and lunch times, and accompanying pupils on educational visits where required. Maintaining a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment will be at the heart of everything you do, alongside adhering to safeguarding, health and safety and school policies. This is a full-time, term-time only position working Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, starting from September 2026. The role is ongoing with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. Due to the nature of the setting, there may also be opportunities to support with wider school activities and off-site learning.

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate should be motivated  and capable working with pupils in a SEN School setting.

The successful applicant will be someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with autism and additional needs. Previous experience working within a specialist SEN setting or with individuals with autism or learning disabilities is highly desirable, whether in education, care or support work. A minimum of GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above is essential, and a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related field would be advantageous but not required. You should have excellent communication skills, a patient and adaptable approach, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils. A proactive attitude and willingness to engage in ongoing professional development are key. Due to the location, access to your own transport or reliable travel arrangements is highly desirable, and candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
