Immediate opportunity! Learning Support Assistant (EHCP – Non-Verbal Support) – Clacton

At 4myschools, we are currently working in partnership with a supportive and community-focused primary school in Clacton to recruit a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with an EHCP. This particular role involves supporting a child who is non-verbal, so we are especially keen to hear from candidates who are confident using alternative communication methods such as visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, or other communication aids. You will play a vital role in helping the pupil express their needs, build relationships and access learning in a meaningful way. The school offers a warm, inclusive environment where every child is respected as an individual, and staff work closely together to provide a nurturing and structured setting that supports both academic and personal development within a close-knit school community. In this role, you will provide consistent one-to-one support tailored to the pupil’s communication, sensory and emotional needs, adapting activities to ensure they can fully access the curriculum. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver targeted interventions, implement strategies outlined in the EHCP, and help the pupil develop confidence in their communication and social interaction. Supporting a non-verbal child requires patience, strong observational skills and the ability to interpret non-verbal cues such as body language, behaviour and visual responses. A key part of your role will be encouraging engagement both in lessons and during unstructured times such as break and lunchtime, helping to promote positive interactions and inclusion with peers. You will also be responsible for monitoring progress, maintaining clear records, and contributing to review meetings, ensuring the support provided has a positive and measurable impact on the pupil’s development.

  • Contract duration: Temporary (Long Term), Temp-to-Perm

A strong understanding of child development, SEND practices, and behaviour support strategies is desirable, along with excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with teaching staff and external professionals.
