As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and continue to make progress. You will deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and instructions provided by teaching staff, maintain a positive learning environment and support students in completing set work while upholding the school’s behaviour and classroom expectations. The role involves responding to general student queries, managing classroom behaviour effectively and providing feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson outcomes, student engagement and any issues arising during the lesson. In addition to classroom supervision, Cover Supervisors will also support the wider life of the school by undertaking duties such as form time supervision, break-time supervision and lunch-time supervision. We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, a positive and proactive approach, and the confidence to lead groups of young people. The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff, adapt to different subjects and classroom environments, and remain calm under pressure is essential. A degree-level qualification, or equivalent, would be advantageous; however, candidates with relevant experience working with young people, within schools or in similar settings are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be proactive  and comfortable working with pupils in a Secondary School setting.

The successful applicant will be someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

The ideal candidate will be a confident, organised and adaptable individual who enjoys working with young people and can quickly build positive relationships within a secondary school environment. They will be comfortable leading a classroom, maintaining high standards of behaviour and supporting students to remain engaged with their learning in the absence of their usual teacher. This role would suit someone with previous experience working with children or young people, whether in a school, college, youth work, coaching, mentoring or support role. It is also an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a future career in teaching and looking to gain valuable classroom experience before embarking on teacher training. The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, be able to think on their feet and demonstrate the confidence to manage groups of students across a range of subjects. They will be proactive, professional and capable of following lesson plans provided by teaching staff while ensuring students stay focused and productive throughout the lesson. We are looking for someone who is flexible, reliable and committed to supporting the school’s high expectations of behaviour, attendance and achievement. A calm and resilient approach is essential, as is the ability to adapt quickly to different classroom settings and situations. A degree-level qualification, or equivalent, would be advantageous; however, candidates with relevant experience should not be discouraged from applying. Above all, we are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in education and a desire to contribute positively to the school community. The ideal candidate will have excellent classroom management and communication skills, the ability to engage and motivate secondary-aged students, confidence in supervising whole classes independently, and a flexible approach to working across a variety of subjects.
