Current opening! SEND Learning Support Assistant – advanced notice, flexible supply – Stowmarket
Are you an experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant looking for flexible work that still values consistency and positive relationships with pupils? I am currently supporting a welcoming and inclusive local primary school with an on‑site Alternative Provision, designed to offer tailored support for pupils with additional needs in a calm, nurturing environment. The school is committed to inclusive practice, emotional wellbeing and personalised learning, ensuring pupils feel safe, understood and supported to reach their potential. They are seeking experienced SEND professionals to provide planned and short‑notice cover, with a strong emphasis on continuity, recognising that familiar adults play a vital role in maintaining stability and progress for pupils with SEND. As a supply Learning Support Assistant, you will work within the Alternative Provision and across the wider school setting as required, supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small‑group basis. Your responsibilities will include assisting with differentiated learning activities, supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies, following EHCP targets and maintaining consistent routines throughout the school day. While this is a supply role, work is offered with notice wherever possible, allowing you to enjoy the flexibility of supply work while also building meaningful, long‑term professional relationships within the school community. Even when covering absence, the school prioritises minimising disruption for pupils and values consistency in staffing.
- Contract duration:
- Contract type: Supply – Hours: 08:30-3:30
- Age groups: Primary School

About the ideal candidate
The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and capable working with pupils in a Primary School setting.
We are looking for a candidate who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.
This role is ideal for a Learning Support Assistant or SEND practitioner with previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly within Alternative Provision, nurture groups or similar specialist settings. Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs or complex learning needs would be highly beneficial. The role offers flexible, ongoing supply work 8:30AM-3:30PM on your available days, making it well suited to professionals seeking work‑life balance without losing connection to one setting. Access to transport is strongly recommended due to the school’s location.
