4myschools is recruiting on behalf of a charming and community-focused primary school situated in a rural village setting near Colchester. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join the school on a long-term basis from September 2026, initially for two days per week with the possibility of increasing to three days as the academic year progresses. This welcoming school is known for its caring ethos, inclusive values and commitment to helping every child reach their full potential. The school operates a mixed-age class structure, creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment where children develop independence, confidence and a love of learning. The successful HLTA will work primarily across Key Stage 1, supporting mixed year group classes and providing consistent classroom cover and learning support. Duties will include delivering planned lessons, leading whole-class learning, supporting pupils of varying abilities, reinforcing key curriculum objectives and assisting teachers in maintaining high standards of achievement and engagement. The role requires somebody capable of building strong relationships with pupils and staff, providing continuity and becoming an integral member of the school team for the duration of the placement.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate should be motivated  and confident working with pupils in a Primary School setting.

The successful applicant will be someone who can build positive relationships, adapt to different classroom environments, and support pupils with a range of learning needs.

We are looking for a committed and experienced HLTA who ideally holds a recognised Level 4 HLTA qualification or equivalent. Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or above and a proven track record of working within primary education. Experience delivering lessons and supporting learning across Key Stage 1 is essential, particularly within mixed-age classroom environments. SEND knowledge and experience would be beneficial. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong behaviour management skills, excellent communication, flexibility and the ability to use initiative when managing classroom learning. Due to the school’s rural location, access to reliable transport is highly recommended. Candidates must be available to work from 8:30am to 3:30pm, term time only, for a minimum of two days per week, with flexibility to increase availability should the role expand.
