SEMH Teaching Assistant Harwich
Location: Harwich, Essex
Pay: £75 – £85 per day
Contract: Full time with the potential to go permanent
Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant Harwich. We are seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a primary school supporting students with SEMH needs.
While unique to the individual, generally the experience of trauma can cause lasting adverse effects, limiting the ability to function and achieve mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being. Trauma-informed practice is an approach to health and care interventions which is grounded in the understanding that trauma exposure can impact a child’s overall wellbeing.
The children you will be working with do at times abscond so it may be a case of you having to take the child outside of the classroom to best meet the child’s individual needs. Re engaging the child in the lesson using various resources such as ‘brain breaks,’ using the iPad and finding the best ways to help the child learn.
This is an ideal role for youth workers, outreach workers and or those who have worked in residential settings.

Responsibilities:
Provide classroom support during lessons, working with small groups or individual students as needed.
Assist in planning and preparing engaging learning materials.
Support students in their social and emotional development, fostering a respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
Collaborate with the teaching team to address the needs of students with varying abilities and learning styles.
Help maintain a safe and organized classroom setting.
Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and school leadership about student progress and concerns.
Requirements:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Adaptability and the ability to thrive in diverse learning environments.
Enhanced DBS check (we can assist in the process if needed).
