4myschools are working with a school in Colchester, Essex who are currently recruiting for a part time Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support a child with Autism (ASD) in year 3. This shared support role will be working 2 days a week, 1:1 with a pupil who is a low ability learner. Part of the classroom has been adapted to cater for his needs, with access to several activities as he has a short attention span. The child is very happy and tactile and loves music. He is non-verbal and is currently learning basic Makaton signs to communicate. He enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring other areas of the school.
This will be a thoroughly rewarding role. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, enthusiastic, and ready to take on a challenge. You will be required to support learning and social wellbeing and typically work from 08:30am to 3:30pm, 2 days a week, term time only, earning between £70-£80 per day, depending on experience.
This is a smaller than average, two-form entry Junior school where pupils are included, and their achievements celebrated. Staff are caring and supportive the school were rated Good in their most recent Ofsted.
The school are looking to appoint a fun and energetic LSA who will be required to support learning using initiative and creativity. Candidates with a Level 3 childcare qualification or prior SEND experience (professional or personal), will be desirable but not essential and recent graduates looking to pursue a career in education are also encouraged to apply.
This role has the potential to go permanent for the right candidate.
As the ideal SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

In this role, you will be expected to:
- To assess and monitor child’s achievements and behaviour, working closely with the teacher and SENDCo,
- Liaise with the other LSA who will work on opposite days,
- Tailor fun and interactive sessions to suit the needs of the child and supervise all activities,
- Encourage and promote independence – utilizing Makaton signs and PECs,
- Supervise child whilst he completes tasks,
- Ensure personal, social, emotional, and mental health needs are met throughout the day.
